How the guides on this site are sourced, dated and corrected.
What we publish
Silver Lining Estate publishes educational guides about settling an estate and handling an inheritance in California. The guides explain how the process generally works. They are not legal, tax or financial advice, and Silver Lining Estate is not a law firm, CPA firm or real estate buyer.
How we source information
Legal and tax statements in the guides are drawn from official sources, in this order of preference:
- California Courts and the Judicial Council, for probate procedure and court forms.
- The California Legislature, and published court opinions where a statute or a case needs to be cited exactly.
- The California State Board of Equalization, for Proposition 19 and property-tax guidance, and county assessor and recorder offices for local procedure.
- The Internal Revenue Service and the California Franchise Tax Board, for basis, capital gains and tax reporting.
- Official licensing and regulatory bodies, for information about professionals.
Other reputable publications may be used to help explain a point, but not as the authority for a legal or tax rule. Each guide lists its sources at the end of the page, with links, so you can read them yourself. A legal or tax point that cannot be confirmed in an official source is left out or clearly qualified.
Dates
Each guide shows one date near its title: the date the page was last updated.
Legal review process
The guides are general education, not legal or tax advice. A page names a reviewer only when a real review by that person has taken place. A page that names no reviewer should not be read as approved by an attorney, a CPA or any other professional.
What every guide does carry is its sources: the official statutes, court pages, forms and agency publications behind what it says, listed at the end of the page.
Corrections
If something on a page looks wrong or out of date, email info@silverliningestate.co and tell us which page and what you noticed.
Education, not advice
A guide cannot take account of your facts, and reading one does not create a professional relationship of any kind. For advice about your situation, consult a licensed attorney, CPA or other professional.
The professional directory
How professionals are included, checked and disclosed is explained on the directory's own page: How this directory works.
